Tate McRae Makes Her Music Award Show Debut with “You Broke Me First”

Nominated for Best New Artist at MTV’s 2020 Video Music Awards, up and coming Canadian pop artist Tate McRae made her music award show debut with her single “You Broke Me First” in the VMA pre show. From a remote stage, McRae sang alone at an office-style desk, surrounded by neon lights and fog. The heartfelt song was brought to life through her passionate dance, as she moved around the chairs and even on top of the desk. Decked in chains and sparkly jewelry, and wearing a baggy white ensemble, McRae combined her dance talents with her musicianship in her performance, and did not disappoint. This is the up and coming teen pop prodigy’s debut on a major music award show - she had previously won Female Best Dancer on The Dance Awards three times from 2013 to 2018, and was even a finalist on So You Think You Can Dance. Now, her talents as a musician are shining through. She began uploading dance videos to YouTube, making music for fun, until she caught the attention of RCA Records in 2019. “You Broke Me First” was released back in April, and in a pre show interview, she revealed she has plans for more collaborations in the works.
