Matt Oakley Details the Price of Freedom in "Soldier's Son"

Every Fourth of July, we gather with our loved ones to celebrate the anniversary of American independence. We commemorate the day with hot dogs, sparklers, trips to the pool, and, of course, fireworks. For Matt Oakley, our country’s freedom carries a deeper meaning.

In his newest single, “Soldier’s Son”, Oakley details the trials and tribulations faced by those in the military. He shines a special spotlight on their loved ones, as he was raised by a father in the armed forces. Throughout his childhood, Matt Oakley saw his father come and go, his mother playing the role of both parents during the times when his father was away.

Oakley is well aware of the weight that comes with service, as the song “summarizes what it meant to be the son of a soldier, the things he taught me, and the gratitude I share for all that serve.” This song is meant to symbolize more than just his role as a military dependent, it’s a representation of the price of freedom.
