"If I'm Honest" by Blake Shelton
Blake Shelton’s new album gives us a glimpse into the past year of his life with a lot of emotional lyrics and heartfelt messages.
His album, If I’m Honest, released in May, features his two hit radio songs, “She’s Got a Way with Words” and “Came Here to Forget.” Both of which seem to reference his previous relationship. Shelton has a heartfelt duet on the album that he wrote with girlfriend Gwen Stefani, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.” It’s easy to see that Shelton drew some inspiration from his and Stefani’s previous marriages while writing this album. In “Every Goodbye” Shelton sings, “There’s a reason that we’re both here right now and a reason everything didn’t work out. We’re two sets of previous relationships at the same time.” While the emotional lyrics are a big part of Shelton’s album, you also get some fun sing-a-long’s from tracks such as “Friends,” which was written for the Angry Birds Movie and “Doing it to Country Songs,” featuring the Oak Ridge Boys.
Overall, I was impressed with Shelton’s new album. I’m a sucker for songs written about the artist’s real life, and Blake definitely pours his heart out in some of these songs. If you haven't already, check out the full album here.
